noco - “tell me, does that “carbon belt drive system” realy works as good as they say?”
Yes! I have raced a belt drive (in Oregon) over a course that sent seasoned riders half way through to the RAPHA van shaking their heads. The belt is silent. The gear hub never misses a shift or hesitates, and one can come to a complete stop in 8th gear, rotate the shifter back to 1st and start back off in 1st. The only thing better will be the new 11speed due out Sept. 2010. Considering the weight of a chain, difference in chain ring, hub and cog, and derailleur weights the weigh difference is negated. As far as strength and reliability consider Harley Davidson has been using OEM belt drive systems since 1984 with nothing but reliable success, and that the bicycle industry is simply that many years “behind” the technology curve. Compared to a chain, a belt drive system is like a laser to a caveman’s camp fire. No fuss, no fiddling, no grease, no gear grind-chink-glunk-bang-slip-oops it fell off. Just get on ride and never think about it. Confidence is the word. Go ride one and you will immediately understand.
I am a bicycle constructor (frame builder) and I have created many different kinds of bikes over the years for many different riders, but this one I built for me. It is my personal ride and I love it!
This bike was hand made by Framebones Cycle (http://www.framebones.com) for the 2009 Oregon Constructors Competition. The rack was designed to carry a custom insulated bag for a six pack of beer and a change of cloths after a 77 mile day race.
great bike ;)
