About this bike
Another one of my 80’s quirky bent steel tubed time trial bikes. This one was custom built for me by my dad in 1988.
The frame is constructed from Reynolds 653 & 531 tubing with carbon fibre head-tube gusset. Frame had a slightly lower bottom bracket height to lower centre of gravity – just had to be careful cornering with those 175mm cranks. The bike was built up with Shimano 7402 Dura-Ace componentry, including seat post and stem. Sugino75 Tyranno disc wheel has a custom machined Suntour Winner Pro 7 speed freewheel to match the 8 speed SIS shifters.
I raced it for three years and then reluctantly sold it with I went to University to buy a fridge and washing machine.
15 years later I purchased it back again - after being told it was in boxed up storage, since the UCI had banned them from competition.
Many of the parts had been replaced and drive-train was changed to Suntour Superbe Pro. I set about restoring it back to original condition, fortunately the frame was still in excellent condition. Replaced the various missing Dura-Ace components and the bike’s original San Marco Regal.
