About this bike

09’ BMC Racemaster SLX 01

This bike has only had moderate customisation. I have switched the tyres, saddle, stem, bar tape and pedals. I have also added carbon bottle cages.
I have included it into the gallery as the frame design is pretty radical. The bottom stays, seat tube and half of the down tube is alloy and the rest of the frame and forks are carbon.
The alloy triangle that surrounds the bottom bracket provides extreme stiffness whilst the carbon adds to lighten the weight and provide vibration absorbtion where it’s most needed.  BMC’s aim with this bike was to give sprinters a more responsive, solid bike, knowing that weight is not the main issue. It weighs in at 8kg. The bike flys, i love it.

I hear your comments and cheers.  With regards to the wheels i will upgrade one day but just don’t have the dough right now. Plus these wheels actually run really smooth and super straight, they are just not that light.
I had left the steerer tube for a while to make sure i was happy with the riding height. It turns out that i will leave the stem at it’s current height so i just need to get the bike down to a lbs to do the chop.

Who cares if this bike is custom or not. It does come from a “boutique” manufacturer and thus deserves recognition here. These BMC bikes are an Industrial Design masterpiece, and their Swiss heritage definitely helps out with the graphics too!

With regards to this bike in particular, it’s a pretty awesome package as it is, but here are my recommendations if they mean anything. 1) Get rid of those awful orange safety warning stickers on those wheels. 2) While your at it, get some nicer wheels on there. Go for at least Fulcrum 1s. 3) Cut your steerer tube to length. 4) Get some white Hüdz for your shifters.

The stem is 140mm. I did have a 130mm before and i can’t decide which i like best :) It just looks rather long in the photo from that angle. I am 6ft 1 also.

Not sure if this bike deserves to be on the site, what customisation?
